Mold is found both indoors and outdoors, and can enter your home through doors, open windows, vents, heating and air conditioning systems.
Mold in outdoor air can also cling to clothing, shoes and pets and be carried indoors. Mold spores grow when deposited in places where there is excessive moisture, such as where there have been leaks in roofs, pipes, walls or flower pots, or where there has been a flood. Many building materials provide the right nutrients to stimulate mold growth.
Moist cellulose materials, such as paper and paper products, cardboard, ceiling panels, wood and wood products, are especially conducive to the growth of some types of mold.Other materials, such as dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation materials, drywall, carpeting, fabrics and upholstery, are generally conducive to mold growth.
